STORY

16.2 hand 4 year old Percheron x QH gelding

Story was born confident and brave. This honest gelding has one of those minds that you only find once in a blue moon. He is cool, calm and collected and will do anything you ask of him. He is gentle on the ground and in the saddle. Not only is he intelligent, he is gorgeous - who doesn’t want a 4 year old 16.2h Buckskin Percheron x QH that is so versatile, he can do any job you want him to?

We have had the pleasure of watching this gelding mature - he has been a part of our herd since he was two. We have seen him in the high desert, where he was unfazed by loud noise and high winds. We have ridden him out solo in the hills of Montana and he never hesitated, he does not need a buddy to brave new territory. He is notably surefooted, level-headed and steady. He has never made a misstep or offered us any silly behavior. He stands still to mount and is very easy to catch - he would never leave you stranded in the backcountry.

Story shows genuine excitement when learning new things and you can always feel the lightbulb go off when he gets it - and he remembers what you’ve taught him the next time you ask for it. His talent and athleticism make him a truly enjoyable horse to ride. He is broke to ride English and Western and is very light in the bridle without being touchy. He knows how to lope off with a kiss, open and close gates, and jumps with ease. (see his very first day of jump training in his video below!) While he is happy to move out when asked, the draft horse side of him still prefers a nice, leisurely walking pace. He would make a trusted trail partner, handy ranch horse, or excellent fox hunting prospect.

Story is quiet and easy in a stall or run, but is also comfortable living out in a herd - he is generally near the top of the pecking order, but is not rude about it. He loads and unloads with ease and stands peacefully for the farrier. He is an easy keeper, currently  on a forage only diet. He is sound, requires no maintenance and has freshly floated teeth. He does have a tiny, healed corneal scar (right eye) that is purely cosmetic and does not affect his vision or performance in any way - he was cleared by a veterinary ophthalmologist in 2025 (happy to provide documentation to any prospective buyers).
