A rare and gentle giant, Cross Wind CTR Smokey is a 2023 model ABA registered TRUE BLUE ROAN Brabant gelding standing an impressive 17.1h. He is one of a small, exclusive population of American Brabants in the US. He was sired by Rambo Van Luchteren, making him 50% European Brabant.

Fondly known to us as Big Timber, this beautiful gelding has been a part of our herd for the past year. We have watched him mature both mentally and physically and helped to build his foundation through the seasons. He is the first horse to leave the hay and meet you at the gate. He’ll be there waiting, offering a throaty whinny of greeting. He is a big, goofy sweetheart with a soft, kind eye that adores attention from his humans.

Big Timber is broke to ride and drive. He has experience driving the cart and farm machinery as part of a two horse team. Under saddle, he is growing softer in the bridle and more responsive to leg cues with each ride. He has a great stop off the seat and “woah”, backs up and is picking up a one handed neck rein. He has lovely, smooth gaits and transitions for a horse of his size - his walk is slow and steady, his jog is soft and easy to ride and he will move out in a rocking chair lope when asked. He is a very comfortable ride.

While he would never deny you arena time, Big Timber was born for the trails. He will go anywhere you point him - he climbs the rocks, crosses the water and the logs. His muscular Brabant build and low center of gravity give him excellent stability on uneven mountain terrain. We have yet to see him be afraid of anything, objects that other horses get watchy about, Big Timber approaches with confidence and genuine curiosity. Use him to pony the colts, pack an elk out of the backcountry or carry your loved ones down the trails, this honest gelding is as steady and loyal as you could want one.

Big Timber is a gentleman on the ground. He respects personal space on lead and doesn’t have an ounce of “pushy” draft in him. He is super easy to catch, naps while being groomed, stands calmly for a bath and loads and unloads from the trailer with ease. He is playful in the herd, usually sitting somewhere near the top of the pecking order. He is an easy keeper, currently on a forage only diet. He sells sound and UTD.
